Callander Community Development Trust extends their Friendship Garden – thanks to the National Park’s Community Grant Scheme

Celebrating the natural history and heritage of Callander, the Friendship Garden uses native plants and local stone to reflect the local landscape and flora while providing a relaxing meeting place for locals and visitors alike. The completion of the Garden is an incremental step in the town’s ambition to further develop the public realm while celebrating the natural and cultural heritage of the area. It also demonstrates the commitment, resources and passion of a thriving local community.

Our Community Grants Scheme supports community organisations in the National Park to be robust bodies that can represent their wider communities, while enhancing rural development, natural and cultural heritage and the quality of life and well-being of residents and visitors. Between April 2015 and March 2016, we awarded nearly £14,000 to support important core work, like assessing community need, recruiting volunteers, publicising activities, applying for funding and developing projects.

In addition to the Friendship Garden, we funded three other projects to support priorities in local Community Action Plans. They were:

  1. Improving access to a local war memorial in Arrochar
  2. Enhancing a play area with sensory play equipment in Gartmore
  3. Improving a heritage walled garden in Ardentinny.

Details of this year’s Community Grants Scheme will be announced shortly. For more information, keep an eye on www.lochlomond-trossachs.org.uk/grantschemes or contact the National Park’s Communities Development Team by emailing CommunityDev@lochlomond-trossachs.org or calling 01389 722 600.
