Community Futures Grant Scheme

The National Park Community Futures Programme has supported local communities to identify priorities for action through their Community Action Plans, and to establish Community Development Trusts.
 
The National Park offered Community Futures Grants in 2011/12 to assist Community Development Trusts and other community organisations to deliver their Action Plans. There are two types of grants available:
  • Admin – for developing the strength and capacity of Community Organisations
  • Project - for ‘Soon Seen Successful’ projects that deliver National Park Objectives 
Grants Awarded 2011/2012

14 communities applied for the grant scheme and 12 awards were made:

Ardentinny Community Trust

Ardentinny Community Trust is committed to an ambitious new project. The group has been investigating options for the Glenfinart Walled Garden for the last year or so and implementing this has become a key focus of the organisation and all its activities. As an organisation they have taken on landownership responsibilities and now employ a part time member of staff.

Admin grant awarded - £500

Ardentinny Walled Garden

In the last year they have raised funds to carry out a business plan and have worked with Forestry Commission Scotland to negotiate purchase of the Garden. To take the project forward they have obtained leader funding to employ a part-time project manager to take the business plan forward and develop options for opening the Garden to the public. The subject of this Community grant application is a quick win that will have a big positive and visible impact while improving security of the site. The group are looking to contract a local craftsman to build and install main gates for the garden.

Arrochar & Tarbet Community Development Trust joint with Arrochar & Tarbet Community Council

This part of the application came from the Community Development Trust who are continuing to develop the Three Village Hall and investigating options for a visitor centre.

Admin grant - £800.

Tarbet Play Area Refurbishment

This part of the application was submitted by the Community Council. Building on the success of the Play area project in Arrochar last year the group are executing their next phase – Tarbet. Total cost of project £25k.

Project grant - £1,500.

Balloch Community Interest Company (Balloch CIC)

Balloch CIC are focussed on delivering small scale environmental improvements with longer term projects (hydro project) led by small subgroup

Admin grant - £255.

Flower beds in Balloch Square

Another phase of the greening, or flowering of Balloch to build on the success of the previous beds

Project grant – £750 .

Benmore & Kilmun Community Development Trust

The Trust has a large ongoing obligation to provide insurance for one of its initial priority projects – Graham’s Point Community Heritage Park. This is a substantial financial burden every year. This is an active Trust with new Directors recruited in the last year. Trust delivering successful projects and good value for grant given.

Admin Grant – £800

Kilmun Collegiate Church Archaeology Project

Archaeological Examination training project focussed on the ruined tower of the Collegiate Church and involving the school and local volunteers. Although a separate project to the Mausoleum it will encourage active involvement of the local community in this important heritage site.

Project grant - £1,500.

Callander Community Development Trust

Main focus of work over the next year will be producing their new Community Action Plan, recruiting new members to Action Groups and working in partnership to deliver the Callander Charrette. The Trust supports a big community and working with a large number of local voluntary organisations and agencies in the interest of Callander.

Admin grant: - £800.

Greening St Kessogs

Project to landscape the beds in North Ancaster Square in Callander, led by the Callander Greening group.

Project grant - £1,500.

Croftamie Community Trust

Active organisation, delivering many projects and taking part in networking activities with other Park communities. Lots of activities planned for next year.

Gartmore Community Trust

New activities of the organisation include the delivery of the new Community Action Plan and setting up a Mums and Tots group.

Gartmore Village to Loch Ard Forest and Beyond

Essentially a funding request for gates and fingerposts. The group have been working with the Paths in the Park project and Access officers for advice.

Project grant -£890.

Killin and Ardeonig Community Development Trust

Killin Community Development Trust have submitted an application to this part of the Grant only. They have been working to develop a new Community Action Plan over the last six months. Their new Community Action Plan is about to be published with ambitions for many projects being implemented in 2012

Kilmaronock Community Development Trust

Busy Community Development Trust delivering projects such as Energy efficiency/Renewable energy and Paths projects.

Admin grant - £800.

Toposcope

To design, purchase and position a toposcope to interpret the surrounding landscape of Loch Lomond. The project will be designed to complement the Aber Path project (project previously implemented by the community in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage and with support from the Park Authority) and on advice on siting and maintenance.

Project grant - £1,400.

Lochgoil Community Trust joint with Lochgoil Community Council

This part of the application is from the Community Development Trust. Focus this year for the Trust is on delivering a new Community Action Plan and continuing to investigate the hydro project.

New Community Website

Project led by Community Council for one off design costs for a new website for the whole community

Project grant - £1,500.

Luss and Arden

The Trust have this year focussed on supporting the Hall Trustees on the improvement project and have continued to work on the Playpark.

Admin grant - £770.

Luss Hall facilities - Toilets

Phase 2 of the hall improvement work. The Hall Trustees have already been successful in Phase 1 of their project. This was funded by Historic Scotland, Heritage Lottery Fund, Robertson Fund and Hugh Fraser Foundation and included external works with the entire roof replaced, the windows and doors either repaired or replaced, re-instatement of chimney and lead work. The Community Grant will improve the toilet area within the village hall. The project is to raise the cloakroom floor to make it more accessible by less able-bodied and disabled persons. It is also planned to turn one toilet into a disabled toilet and to install hand washing facilities in the other. It is planned that the toilet renovation will be DDA compliant as the improvement is aimed at less able bodied persons.

Strathard Community Trust with Strathard Community Council
