Local Community Development Trusts

Following on from the preparation of Community Action Plans, communities were assisted to think through the best organisational option to take forward their new Plan.

If they were interested in setting up a community development trust, they were offered support and guidance. Twenty communities in the Park (and 4 outwith the Park) now have a community development trust – a community owned company – which works with the Community Council and other local organisations to access funding and deliver projects.

The National Park Authority provides support to Trusts and their projects. We also work with the Development Trusts Association Scotland, Local Authorities, SCVO and Small Town and Rural Development Group to provide training and technical support.

The Community Partnership

The Community Partnership was established at the outset of the Community Futures Programme – a partnership of community representation (drawn from the Area Networks), and agency representation - from the National Park, the Local Authorities, SNH and Forestry Commission.

The Community Partnership has 2 main purposes:

  • To champion a partnership approach to addressing common issues for Park communities – implementing collaborative solutions
  • To support networking and learning amongst the communities of the Park
It is a charitable company, and so has the ability (like the local trusts) to seek funding, own land, and employ staff. The Community Partnership also hosts an annual Community Gathering. For details of the 2009 Community Gathering click here.
