A Busy Summer in the National Park 27/08/09

Fiona LoganHi,

We had a strong feeling that record numbers would visit the National Park this summer as more people choose to holiday at home and we certainly have been proved right. Our Rangers are speaking to as many visitors as possible and also keeping the 720sq miles of the National Park looking at its best.

Ranger teams have been working from 10am to 10pm every day including weekends and in key visitor hotpots such as Luss, Sallochy and Millarochy Bay and Loch Lubnaig to ensure visitors are welcomed. They are also able to share their expert knowledge about the Park and advise people where to visit, the best places to eat and stay and what they can expect to see on their trip.

Update from the Communities Team 23/07/09

Killin aerial viewHi, this month Fiona has invited me to give you an update from the Communities Team.

Our Team in Rural Development is small but perfectly formed! There’s me - Lesley Campbell, the Team Manager, four part time Community Development Officers,  two Sustainable Development Officers (although these posts are shared by three people), and our invaluable Support Officer.

Through our Community Futures programme our current priorities are supporting the twenty Community Development trusts around the Park to take forward their priorities in their Community Action Plans. These range from developing a community Play Park in Luss to getting interpretation boards in St Fillans.

Tourism Network Launch! 09/06/09

Lomond marketHi,

On Monday we launched our new Tourism Network with an evening event at Carrochan. There was a fantastic turnout with a diverse range of tourism business from across the Park attending.

The night provided an ideal forum for local businesses, our Board members and our tourism team to chat about the challenges and opportunities faced by the Park tourism industry during the credit crunch.

It was wonderful to hear such open discussion and enthusiasm for working together to boost business in the Park during this difficult economic time.

Out and About with Ranger Claire Travis 23/04/09

Picnicing on the shores of Loch LomondHi, my name’s Claire Travis and I‘m the team leader for the National Park Rangers based around Loch Lomond. Fiona has invited me to give you my news from around the Park.

Easter weekend saw lots of people enjoying the spring sunshine and the fantastic scenery of the Park. Millions of people come to the Park every year and my colleagues and I are kept busy working with local communities and helping visitors to the area enjoy this very special place.

With so many visitors to the Park, our Ranger teams are now working revised shift patterns to make sure we are out and about when you are. So if you spot a National Park Ranger, don’t be shy, come over for a chat!
