Local Development Plan

Work is currently under way on reviewing the National Park’s development plan. As part of this review our current Local Plan and the structure plans that cover the Park’s area will be updated and replaced by one Local Development Plan.

The Local Development Plan will be the Park’s statutory planning document that guides all future development and use of land. It will act as a strong catalyst for changes and improvements in the area and shape the environment of the National Park. The Local Development Plan will provide clear guidance on what development will or will not be allowed and where. It will provide the framework against which planning applications are assessed, and will be reviewed every five years to ensure an up-to-date Plan is in place to guide future development in the area.

The Local Plan 2010-2015 remains the statutory plan until the Local Development Plan is adopted.

For more information on the Local Development Plan and how it will be prepared, visit our FAQs page.

Your input in preparing our Local Development Plan is important from the earliest stage possible; we want to hear what you think are the big issues for planning in our towns and villages. ‘Your Park Your Plan’ is a year- long initiative which focuses on engagement and participation from all with an interest in the National Park.

You can also get involved by using the Local Development Plan blog: www.yourcommunityyoursay.com. On the site you can keep up to date with progress of the Local Development Plan and make comments on anything that is posted.

You can get involved at every stage of the process and our timetable, called the Development Plan Scheme, sets out each stage we go through and exactly how you can input to it.
