Work of the Rangers
Water-based National Park Rangers can be found at Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway in Balloch and Milarrochy Bay on the east side of Loch Lomond. They deal largely with matters relating to craft use on
Loch Lomond.
Away from their daily duties on
Loch Lomond, the Rangers also help with educational events relating to water safety, frequently visiting local schools or helping out at public events. They also conduct a wide range of surveys throughout the year and organise and run local volunteer events.
National Park Rangers are happy to answer your questions and give advice to anyone using
Lomond & The surrounding area.
At the Slipway
National Park Rangers oversee the launch and recovery of craft brought to the slipway. They check registration marks are correct, that the appropriate number and design of lifejackets are on board each boat and complete launch slips with details of the boat to be launched and her crew.
On busy days, particularly at weekends, they manage parking in the trailer park and queuing for access to the slipway.
Rangers advise and help with the registration process, issue registration packs and explain the basic rules of the road on Loch
Lomond. They also keep the place tidy!
On Loch Lomond
National Park Rangers deal with contraventions of the byelaws on the loch. If a boat is stopped regarding a byelaw matter, Rangers will explain the violation and corresponding byelaw, check registration details on the boat database and explain safe routes of navigation around the
loch.
The Rangers' work is varied; they assist in all cases whether it involves injured people or animals, boats running out of fuel or running aground.
Rangers are frequently joined on the patrol boats by local police officers from Strathclyde and Central Police.
