Saturday 28th August 2021
We are pleased to see the return of Go Swim Loch Lomond on Saturday 28th August 2021. Special measures are in place to deliver a restricted event this year, ensuring a safe and enjoyable time for everyone as part of the Year of Coasts & Waters 2020-21 celebrations.
The purpose of the event is to provide people from all walks of life access to open water for leisure, exercise and pure enjoyment in a safe manner. Go Swim gives people an opportunity to try out and/or improve their outdoor swimming skills in structured event environment, set up and managed by a team of sport and swimming event delivery professionals.
Find out more about the event on the Go Swim website.
This year the event organiser is simplifying the format and restricting numbers throughout the entire programme to put on this COVID safe event. To increase distancing and manageable ‘bubbles’ for example, 1,000 athletes will be batched into smaller groups over a longer timeframe, extending the event day by almost three hours. Safety messaging has been emphasised in the long lead-in time and water safety promotions have been strengthened over the past weeks in recognition that people have not had the same indoor or outdoor swim training opportunities over the past year. Regardless of experience or ability, every entrant will take part in a safety briefing and warm-up sessions.
In order to ensure everyone’s safety, Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway will be closed to other loch users from 8:00am on Thursday 26th, Friday 27th and Saturday 28th August. This is to allow time for the event organisers to construct the required health and safety infrastructure around the slipway building and on the water. During this period it will not be possible to launch or retrieve craft at the slipway.
The slipway will be fully operational again from 08:30am on Sunday 29th August 2021. If you wish to check access before setting off or require any further information, please call the Slipway Team on 01389 722030 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
