Piers and Pontoons – Commercial Berthing Permit Scheme

Applications for permits to use these structures for commercial berthing must be made and paid for in advance of use. Charges are based on the type (length) of permit and the size of the boat. The types of permits available are as follows:

Annual Permits

Annual permits run from 1st April to 31st March and should be applied for by February of each year. The permit allows the un-limited use of the identified structure for commercial berthing and can be used on more than one boat.

Monthly seasonal permits (Summer and Winter)

Monthly permits run from the first to the last day of each month. Applications can be made for more than one month at a time. The permit allows the un-limited use of the identified structure for commercial berthing and can be used on more than one boat.

Day permits

Day permits are issued per boat and give unlimited use of all structures available under the scheme. Charges are dependent on boat size and a maximum of ten day permits can be applied for per boat in advance, with any unused permits being credited on return.

Conditions of Use

On receiving a permit the operator will be agreeing to the conditions of use for the pier and pontoon structures. These consist of operational conditions and legal requirements that cover liability, respective parties, responsibilities, insurance requirements, health and safety requirements and operational restrictions.

In order to ensure compliance with the commercial berthing scheme, boat operators are asked to register their boats with the Park Authority and display the mark and number issued. The number will identify the boat as being a commercial operator and enable National Park Rangers to check permit compliance.
