Loch Arklet
A remote loch, Arklet is well worth the effort to reach thanks to its fabulous location. From the town of Aberfoyle, you take the B829 Inversnaid road, passing first Loch Ard, then Loch Chon before finally coming across Loch Arklet. It is actually a neighbour, to the east, of far larger Loch Lomond and lies west of Loch Katrine.
A section of Great Trossachs Path hugs the northern shoreline of the loch, offering a chance for a walk. Corrie Arklet Farm on the loch shore was where infamous outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor was married.
You can walk on to Loch Lomond and enjoy some superb views over both lochs and the surrounding National Park. Don’t miss the stunning Inversnaid Falls, here, too!

As you stroll, keep your eyes peeled for osprey, which sometimes come to the loch to fish. This area is also well known for feral goats.
Loch Arklet operates as a reservoir supplying areas of Glasgow with drinking water.
Make a stay of it
Whether you’re looking for the comfort of a campsite or the solitude of ‘wild camping’, the National Park offers plenty of places to immerse yourself in some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland.
If you are planning to ‘wild camp’, be aware that seasonal byelaws came into effect on 1st March 2017 which affect how you can camp in some areas between March and September. During this time, you need a permit to camp or (in some locations) to stay overnight in your motorhome in these Camping Management Zones.
