The Great Trossachs Forest NNR

Set in the heart of the National Park is one of the UK’s largest National Nature Reserves. The Great Trossachs Forest is a huge landscape-scale woodland restoration project involving RSPB, Forestry Commission Scotland and Woodland Trust. In the first 10 years of the 200 year project, more than 2.5 million trees have been planted creating a connected corridor of woodland.

Covering 160 square km, this continuous area managed for the benefit of wildlife and people is creating a forest landscape large enough to include a range of habitats. It is this ‘mosaic‘ of habitats which invertebrates, mammals, birds and other wildlife need to thrive and try to adapt to a changing climate.

The Great Trossachs Forest NNR truly offers something for everyone no matter whether you are looking for tranquillity and relaxation, to explore the wilds of the Trossachs or to find a site for artistic inspiration. The Great Trossachs Path is a perfect way to take in stunning scenery along loch shores, hillslopes, mature woodlands rich in wildlife and history.
