Oak Tree Inn – a local business taking action

The Oak Tree Inn, in Balmaha, is a great example of a local tourism business taking action to address the climate emergency, whilst continuing to develop their business.

The Fraser family, who run the business, have produced a Net Zero Strategy and set a target of reaching Net Zero by 2040.

Some of the steps they are taking include:

  • Installing a biomass shed to heat their businesses, 200 solar panels and a polytunnel and vegetable garden
  • Replacing kitchen appliances to energy efficient electric ones
  • Using electric vans
  • Recycling all cardboard
  • Encouraging use of reusable cups
  • Developing the recycling of all used coffee grounds using the biomass unit to process them into coffee logs/bricks/pellets.
