Delivering the action plan – March 2017

Progress continues with the key projects and actions from the Balloch Charrette. Click below to access the original report or further down to read our latest update:

Balloch Castle

West Dunbartonshire Council and Z.M.Architects are currently consulting on the potential future uses of the Castle. Consultants are looking at a wide range of options following the good ideas suggested during the Charrette. One key focus is to ensure that any future use is financially viable to sustain the building medium to long term. The Council have invested significant funds in making the Castle wind- and watertight to date.

West Riverside and Woodbank House

Scottish Enterprise has appointed the preferred bidder for their West Riverside development site; a planning application is expected later this year with public consultation required before it is submitted.

Station and Village Squares

Sustrans has prepared initial draft sketches of what Station and Village Squares could look like in the future to create more welcoming and safer environments for locals and visitors. This has been informed by the views of the local community. Much work has still to be done to develop the sketches before further public consultation by Sustrans planned for this spring.

Activity Strategy

The first ever European Championships will be held in Glasgow in 2018 and Balloch is hosting the Open Water Swimming competition at Loch Lomond during the 1st week in August 2018. The games organisers expect massive TV audiences and are keen to showcase all the great destinations visitors to Glasgow can easily reach from the city centre.  This is a great opportunity for local businesses and the wider community, so watch this space as ideas develop for associated events and activities that will really show off Balloch and Loch Lomond and make the most of the anticipated boost in visitor numbers during the games.

We will keep you posted with updates and consultations.
