Balmaha Rocks: An Origin Story with Ranger Louise

Date: Sunday 19 July 2026

Travel through time with Ranger Louise as we uncover the origin story of the earth’s crust at Balmaha. Through a short video, a guided walk and a few chocolatebar demos(!), you’ll discover the remarkable qualities of the rock beneath your feet and the turbulent, uplifting forces that shaped the landscape we see today.

From ancient peaks once higher than the Himalayas to views of Conic Hill, right on the Highland Boundary Fault Line, we’ll step into a story billions of years in the making – a timetravelling adventure that brings Scotland’s geological past vividly to life.

Date: Sunday 19 July 2026

Times: Walks available 11.00am–12.30pm and 2.00pm–3.30pm

Duration: 1.5 hours

Terrain: Smooth & uneven, rocky surfaces with a 10minute uphill section (but the view is sure to thrill!)

Set in and around Cashel Forest, you’ll have a scenic backdrop for getting handson with the natural world.

You’ll guddle in the pond, search the stream, meander through the meadow and scour the woods to uncover everything from the weeist beasties to the biggest trees – with Adam highlighting all the clues and details that are easy to miss on your own. It’s a curiosityfuelled experience that leaves you noticing more every time you’re outdoors.
